On May 28, 2025, the 130th lecture of the Think Tank Construction Lecture Series of the Middle East Studies Institute (MESI) of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) was held at Hongkou Campus. Professor As'ad Ghanem of Comparative Politics at the University of Haifa was invited to give a lecture titledThe Israeli-Palestinian Escalation-Temporary Change or Strategic Direction, and What’s Next?

The lecture was hosted by Professor Ding Long, Deputy Director of the MESI at SISU. Researchers including Zhang Yuan, Han Jianwei,Qian Xuming, Bao Chengzhang and Shu Meng as well as graduate students and international students attended this lecture.

Professor Ghanem systematically analyzed the root causes and current status of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict at the domestic, regional and international levels, and dissected the reasons for the current escalation of the conflict. He argued that factors such as Israel's policy of fixed-point settlements led to the escalation of violence, and pointed out that factors such as the shelving of the Oslo Accords, the internal division of Palestine and the rise of right-wing forces in Israel exacerbated the conflict.

After the lecture, Professor Ghanem also had an interactive exchange on the solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and its international impact.

Finally, Professor Ding Long summarized the lecture and expressed his gratitude to Professor Ghanem for his wonderful lecture and the active participation of teachers and students.
