Delegation from the MESI of SISU visited Egypt for Academic Exchange

From August 26 to 30, 2026, a delegation from of the Middle East Studies Institute at Shanghai International Studies University traveled to Egypt for academic exchanges. The delegation included Professor Ding Long (delegation leader), Researcher Zhang Yuan, Associate Professor Han Jianwei, and Dr. Zhao Jing.

On the morning of August 26, the delegation visited the Regional Center for Strategic Studies and Training (RCSST).

On August 27–28, International Conference on China & Egypt Relations from the Perspective of Global Middle East: Retrospect and Prospect on the 70th Anniversary jointly organized by RCSST and the MESI of SISU was held. Scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including President Xi Jinping’s visit to Egypt, the 70th anniversary of China-Egypt relations, the global Middle East, the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict, and Türkiye-Egypt relations.

On the morning of August 29, the delegation visited Badr University. The two sides discussed topics such as faculty and student exchanges, educational and research cooperation between Chinese and Egyptian universities, cultural exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and Egyptian civilizations, and the growing popularity of Chinese language learning in Egypt; that same afternoon, the delegation visited Bayt Alhekma Cultural Industry Group. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the translation, publication, and promotion of Arabic-language editions of Chinese books; the study and teaching of Chinese in Egypt; exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Arab civilizations; and regional issues of concern, and reached a memorandum of understanding.

On the morning of August 30, the delegation visited Al-Masry Al-Youm. Reporter Khaled Elshamy interviewed the delegation on topics including President Xi Jinping’s visit to Egypt, the development of the China-Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, China-Egypt economic, trade, and investment cooperation, and China’s scientific and technological innovation and the application of artificial intelligence.

This academic exchange is an effective implementation of the “Global Middle East” research concept, helping to provide deeper insights into new trends in Egypt’s political, economic, and social developments and contributing to the friendly and cooperative relationship between China and Egypt.
