BIO
Song Niu is an associate professor of the Middle East Studies Institute (MESI) at Shanghai International Studies University, secretary of the MESI party branch, and is editorial director of the Asian Journal of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. In July 2009, he joined MESI as a research fellow. From 2011-2014, he severed as a postdoctoral fellow in the School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) at Fudan University. From 2013-2014, he severed as a postdoctoral fellow in the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs at Georgetown University. He is a member of China Association of Middle Eastern Studies, and International Institute of Cultural Studies–Shanghai. He is also adjunct research fellow of the Center for Religion and China’s National Security at Fudan University, Center for Arab Studies at Wuhan University, and Center for European Union Studies at Shanghai International Studies University.
In addition to his academic work, he teaches courses for undergraduates and postgraduates. He supervises postgraduate students since 2012, and one of them got National Scholarship in 2014, one of them got Israel Government Scholarships.
He is the author of two books on the Middle East. His opinion pieces have appeared in the People’s Daily Overseas Edition, Global Times, China Daily, China Social Sciences Today, People’s Political Consultative Conference Newspaper, Beijing News, Xinmin Evening News, Dongfang Daily, Wenhui Daily, PLA Daily, Changjiang Daily, Xiaoxiang Morning Herald, Sputnik News, and China Newsweek.
