Abstract: On October 5, 2022, the 33rd ministerial meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), led by Saudi Arabia, and non-OPEC oil producers (OPEC+) decided to cut total crude oil production by an average of 2 million barrels per day (bpd) starting in November 2022. The U.S. expressed disappointment after the news was announced. Prior to this, the U.S. government had been pressuring major oil-producing governments, such as Saudi Arabia, to prevent them from cutting crude oil production. on Oct. 11, National Security Council spokesman Kirby said the White House was reassessing the U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia.
