Abstract:In early May, the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon posted a high-profile social media post showing the progress of the construction of its giant new pavilion. However, instead of receiving widespread praise as expected, this showcase has provoked questions and criticism from the international community. The new U.S. Embassy in Lebanon is about 13 kilometers from the center of Lebanon's capital, Beirut, and covers 43 acres (about 174,000 square meters), the equivalent of 21 standard soccer fields combined, about 2.5 times the size of the U.S. White House.
