On the afternoon of October 20, 2023, the 119th lecture of the Think Tank Construction Lecture Series of the Middle East Studies Institute (MESI) of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) was held at Hongkou Campus. Li Xiangyang, currently Director of the Institute of Asia-Pacific and Global Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was invited to deliver a lecture entitled“Path Choices for Promoting the High-Quality Development of Jointly Constructing ‘Belt and Road’ Construction”.

The lecture was hosted by Professor Liu Shengxiang of MESI at SISU. Researcher Wang Yuzhu, Institute of Asia-Pacific and Global Strategy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), participated in the conversation. Deputy Director of MESI at SISU Yu Yong, Zhang Yuan, Zhao Jun, Han Jianwei, Zhang Hanwen as well as graduate students and international students, attended this lecture.

In the lecture, Li firstly reviewed the progress made in the construction of the Belt and Road in the past, and analyzed the preconditions and basic principles for the promotion of high-quality development of the Belt and Road from the aspects of background, objectives and actors. Finally, Li pointed out that deepening the construction of economic corridors would lay the micro-foundation for the high-quality development of the Belt and Road, and strengthening the institutionalization of the Belt and Road would provide institutional guarantee for the high-quality development of the Belt and Road.

In the conversation, researcher Wang Yuzhu said that the report of Li objectively and comprehensively explained the prerequisites and foundations for promoting the high-quality development of the Belt and Road, and discussed in depth the necessity of building the high-quality development goal of the Belt and Road together.

After the lecture, Li and Wang interacted with teachers and students on how to promote the high-quality development of the Belt and Road and answered their questions in detail.

Finally, Professor Liu Shengxiang summarized the lecture and expressed his gratitude to Li and Wang for their wonderful lectures and comments, as well as the enthusiastic participation of teachers and students.
