Lecture 123 of the Think Tank Construction Series “Decolonising Political Thought: A Middle Eastern Case Study” Successfully Held

On January 9, 2024, the 123rd lecture of the Think Tank Construction Lecture Series of the Middle East Studies Institute (MESI) of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) was held at Hongkou Campus.Sajjad H.Rizvi, professor of Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter, United Kingdom, was invited to give a lecture titled Decolonising Political Thought: A Middle Eastern Case Study.

The lecture was hosted by Professor Ding Jun, Director of the MESI at SISU. Researchers including Zhang Yuan, Qian Xuming, Shu Meng and Han Yuxin, as well as graduate students and international students attended this lecture.

During the lecture, Professor Sajjad H.Rizvi analyzed the phenomena of Eurocentrism and colonization in the study of humanities and social sciences by taking the historical evolution of political thought as a starting point and assessed the application of decolonization research methods in international issues by taking into account the research results of a number of scholars devoted to the decolonization of political theory.

After the lecture, Professor Sajjad H.Rizvi also interacted with the students and faculty on the relationship between decolonization of political thought and the Global South, the impact of decolonization of theories on environmental protection issues, and the similarities and differences between globalization and decolonization of political theories, and answered their questions in detail.

Finally, Director Ding Jun summarized the lecture and expressed his gratitude to Professor Sajjad H.Rizvi for his wonderful lecture and the active participation of teachers and students.
