AUTHOR
Liu Zhongmin, second class professor and doctoral supervisor of Shanghai International Studies University; former director of the Middle East Studies Institute of SISU and editor-in-chief of Arab World Studies. His main research fields are Middle East politics, Islam and international relations, international political theory, maritime strategic issues, Chinese diplomacy, etc. He has published more than 10 monographs, more than 200 academic papers and translations, and more than 50 papers have been reprinted in full text or excerpted. He has presided over more than 10 major projects of the National Social Science Foundation, won more than 10 provincial and ministerial awards for outstanding scientific research achievements. He has published more than 300 articles of current political commentaries in newspapers, magazines and online media, and has made academic exchanges in the United States, Europe and more than ten Middle Eastern countries. He is also the vice president of the Middle East Society of China, the vice president of the Chinese Society for World Ethnicity, and the editorial board member of the West Asia and Africa,Journal of International Relations, Arab World Studies andMiddle East Studies.
INTRODUCTION
This book establishes a theoretical framework for understanding religious extremism and Islamic extremism, clarifies the nature and characteristics of Islamic extremism, and develops a basic understanding of Islamic extremism by evaluating and drawing on theoretical results of research on Islamic extremism. Through empirical examination, the book studies the differences and diversity of Islamic extremism in different subregions and countries in the Middle East, and conducts in-depth case studies on the de-radicalization measures taken by major countries against specific organizations and groups, summarizing the lessons learned from the prevention and control of extremism and de-radicalization in major Middle Eastern countries.
