Speaker Introduction:
Efe Can Gürcan is an Associate Professor at Istinye University in Turkey, a Research Associate at the Geopolitical Economy Research Group of the University of Manitoba in Canada, a Visiting Senior Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom, a Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Global Studies of Shanghai University, and a Senior Researcher at the CGE PEACE DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION in Hainan. He has been awarded the Albert Szymanski Prize of the American Sociological Association (2014), the Distinguished Young Scientist Award of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (2021), and the Distinguished Achievement Prize of the World Association for Political Economy (WAPE) in Political Economy. Distinguished Achievement Award in Political Economy” (2023) of the World Political Economy Association.
Gürcan has a long history of research in international development, international political economy and political sociology, and has published seven monographs, including Multipolarization, South-South Cooperation and the Rise of Post-Hegemonic Governance (2019), Imperialism After the Neoliberal Turn (2022), Collective Empowerment in Latin America: Indigenous Peasant Movements and Political Transformation (2024), China on the Rise: The Transformation of Structural Power in the Era of Multipolarity (2024).
