Abstract: This study examines the realistic perception and counterbalancing strategies of American think tanks regarding China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in the Middle East, which can aid in understanding the policy trends of the United States in the Middle East. Based on this analysis, we can propose targeted measures. The paper reviews 17 reports from 6 think tanks to analyze the opinions and recommendations of American think tanks. The findings reveal that American think tanks have a complex and predominantly negative perception toward the BRI. Cold War mentality, zero-sum game thinking, and pursuit of tangible benefits are the driving forces behind this perception. Consequently, these think tanks propose countermeasures.
